October 9-10: Thank you, University of Johannesburg, Institute for Pan-African Thought and Conversation (IPATC), and TrustAfrica, for the opportunity to rub minds with colleagues on the hashtag#Reparations and Africa’s resource sovereignty in the context of the so-called new scramble for Africa. I have no answers. I have many questions and comments:

1. Africa’s stolen dignity cannot be bought/ brought back by reparations. We have to heal ourselves.
2. Why now? Is the “theme”/talk of reparations the most important agenda for Africa right now? Are we abdicating responsibility by diverting attention from self?
3. Who is listening?
4. Where are we sending the invoice, in what format, to be paid to which bank, in what currency, and who are the signatories?
4. Africa’s development cannot and should not be thematised or projectised.
5. Let us check our minds and psyche…Just in case.
6. Where do we go from here?
