Mpule Roxanne Kgetsi is the African Union Youth Ambassador for Peace-Southern Africa. We both participated in the recently concluded T20 Africa High-Level Dialogue in Pretoria on April 29-30, under the theme “Strengthening African Agency in the G20 within the Emerging Global Order.”

I asked Mpule to share her main takeaways from the High-Level Dialogue, and this is what she had to say:

1. “One key takeaway from the recent T20 discussions is that strengthening African agency within the G20 depends on establishing robust institutions that genuinely reflect and prioritize the voices of the people, especially the youth.”

2. “As young Africans, we must start to think boldly and innovatively about how we can actively reshape our institutions to better serve our present and future. It’s not just about being included; it’s about leading the process of transformation ourselves.”

The youth are eager to serve and lead, yet they believe the barriers to service and leadership are insurmountable. Is the older generation prepared for them?
