Last week I participated in the #UNFCCC 10th NAPs exhibition in #Lusaka.
My presentation focused on Africa’s urgency and agency in integrating NAPs into #Agenda2063 priorities. I highlighted that:
1.The development of National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) is a crucial response to the visible impacts of climate change, especially for Least Developed Countries (LDCs) suffering significant effects.
2. The prolonged climate financing negotiations have not yielded sufficient results, signaling the need for LDCs to expedite NAP development and implementation to address the human security risks posed by climate change, which threaten global #SustainableDevelopmentGoals (SDGs) and Africa’s Agenda 2063.
3. Sharing best practices for NAPs is vital for capacity building and solidarity. NAPs should be integral to national development processes and prioritized in plans and budgets.
4. The success of NAPs is dependent on national ownership, capacity building, and adequate financing.
Africa needs to demonstrate urgency and agency.
