#Mauritius Elections-10 November 2024: Personal reflections.

On Sunday, 10 November 2024, I had the honour of joining the African Union Election Observation Mission in Port Louis, Mauritius.

My key personal takeaway was the orderliness of the elections.

My main personal pleasant “surprise” was the prohibition on the public sale/consumption of alcohol from the day before elections, until after the results were announced. What can other AU Member States learn from this (Forgive the COVID -19 alcohol bans).

And then I got my certificate.

On the travel part, many countries globally could learn from Mauritius. It is the closest to the #freemovementofpeople I have experienced. The reception and departure at the airport are superb.

Thanks to the African Union Commission for bringing together Africans to witness elections-on-wheels.

Africa has been busy with elections this year. May this translate into the development dividends African citizens deserve!
